Because programming has gotten lazy. They no long find unique ways to save space while making games look better. Instead they rely more and more on systems getting upgraded and shorter lifespans. Just look at the visual difference of Halo 1 and 2 on OG Xbox.

Mario Odyssey is an example of a game that is beautiful, runs at 60fps, and only takes up 5gb of space. As much as Nintendo isn't the best at everything like online, they know how to make games

doom eternal is 40Gb were not saying that games should be ridiculously small, were saying that game devs need to start using compression tools and teqniques so that every game isnt 100+ Gb i guarantee most games could be form 40-80 with a bit of effort
