Because that review becomes an advertisement and stops being a review.

Does getting the game for free count as payment? ‘Cause that’s all I would ask for.
-
(unless I was writing a review for a publication, in which case I’d obviously want to be paid)

Receiving the game free to review should be payment enough for a honest review of a game. Being paid to advertise a game is ok as long as u actually enjoy the product and believe its worth getting and it's in the best interest for the consumer to buy the product.

I mean, does it have to be a positive review?

Most companies will not pay you to review their stuff if you're not going to give it a glowing review... this alters the person's outlook on said product. Heavily.

I hate when people try to offer me to advertise their “earn Xbox store card” website. Like no. I’m not going to peddle your scheme to my audience.
