Windows Explorer is trash at copying large files accross flash memory sometimes. I had to use the command prompt with the xcopy command to back up an old SD card , it kept crashing my windows until I copied the files with the command prompt.

I'm using OSX finder but honestly it's probably the exact same problem

I’ve seen it happen when using a docking station or some kind of adapter. I think it may relate to not enough power, or some kind of power fluctuation thing. Not sure though. You may want to run a repair via Disk Utility just in case, if you haven’t already.
