It's mostly because western culture is 'exotic' to Japan so they want to adopt it, and because they want to be more accessible for western people. As someone learning Japanese, it is so frustrating "I'm paying to learn your language, not how you pronounce our words!"

This is true. The words are called garaigo. Many Japanese people are enamored with Western culture. Prior to WWII there were a number of Japanese social elite that formed groups to promote Western norms, with the hopes of modernizing the country technologically/culturally.
