I do the same thing, just in smaller scale, in Hungary. Parents pay my rent, and would pay education too, if I didn't have a scholarship. I work part time for my own spending money, and go back home on the weekends. It's not shameful to get help from family. They want our best.
Most of the people that I know who moved to NYC at a young age were able to do it for these reasons. It’s an unspoken truth no one likes to talk about.
