We have witnesses who saw the “murder.” We have witnesses who saw Trump holding the bloody murder weapon. Continue the investigation in the House: (1) Subpoena John Bolton and Lev Parnas. (2) Sue Mulvaney & co. and enforce the subpoenas in courts (however long it would take).

Murkowski & Collins are devious charlatans Murkowski voted against Kavanaugh but blocked witnesses & docs Collins voted for Kavanaugh but supported a subpoena for Bolton These hypocrites cast “show votes” out of expediency if McConnell does not need their votes. VOTE THEM OUT

House Dems have 2 options: 1| Subpoena Bolton now & maximize the political harm of a “vote to acquit” 2| Subpoena Bolton after Trump’s “acquittal” to show the Senate did not hear from firsthand witnesses & use that on the campaign trail against the GOP Option 2 is more prudent

“Some say, 'No impeachment when there is an election coming.’ But without term limits when the Founders wrote the Constitution, there was always an election coming. If impeachment in election years was not to be, our Founders would have said so.” —Zoe Lofgren (House Manager)

Lamar Alexander says what Trump did “undermined the principle of equal justice under the law” He says Americans—not the Senate—must hold Trump to account But he blocked witnesses & docs to hide the truth BECAUSE he still “supports Trump’s re-election” He is corrupt to the core

“There is a storm blowing through this Capitol. Its winds are strong, and they move us in uncertain and dangerous directions. If we hold true, if we have faith that the ship of state can survive the *truth,* this storm shall pass.” —The Honorable Adam Schiff

If the Senate Republicans do not subpoena John Bolton, and If Justice Roberts rules against the House Managers vis-à-vis witnesses & documents, John Bolton—if he is patriotic—should (1) Proffer his Opening Statement or (2) Go on TV. The House must subpoena John Bolton too.

If there is not a majority vote for or against witnesses & documents (50-50 split vote scenario), Justice Roberts—if he is fair—*must* cast a tie-breaking vote for witnesses & documents. There is also a precedent: Chief Justice Chase broke the tie in the Andrew Johnson Trial.

Members of the Trump Admin should feel they’re able to speak their minds without retribution. The idea that somehow testifying to what you think is true is destructive to the system of government we have is very nearly the exact reverse of the truth. —John Bolton (Jan 30, 2020)

IMPORTANT: Adam Schiff said he is going to ask the Senate Parlimentarian & the Chief Justice to clarify how many votes are needed to overturn Justice Roberts’ rulings on witnesses. Republicans believe it is 51 (Rule VII), but the House Managers believe it is 67 (Rules V & XXV).

If the Chief Justice & the Senate Parlimentarian rule in favor of the House Managers, Justice Roberts will have *sole* subpoena power, and the Senate Republicans cannot overturn Chief Justice’s rulings The Senate Republicans do not have 67 votes to change the Senate Rules either

A thought on Lamar Alexander: His retirement is less relevant than you might think. Trump’s grip on the GOP has implications far beyond elected office. Lamar is looking forward to a life after politics — and he knows it will be complicated by any break w/ Trump over impeachment.

According to one account cited in Wineapple's "The Impeachers," Chief Justice Chase "immediately" left the room after casting his first tie-breaking vote — apparently to prevent any senator from objecting.
