Or they could respect me for the highly trained experienced professional that I am instead of what normally has happened over the past 20 years. C-suite people running on incorrect assumptions, being resistant to learning, and thinking they can do my job.

Which is exactly what I noted above. The OP is talking about eng to eng communication but, as a senior, you're going to be interfacing with non-engineers, and I reject the notion that someone is a bad engineer because they can't explain things to people with no shared vocabulary.
