      The best engineers are not only good at listening but they are good at explaining as well. If you have been overwhelmed and intimidated by a senior engineer please consider the Dunning-Kruger effect. It's likely that person knows less than they think they do. A lot less.

      You cannot be a senior developer without being able to explain what you know. Full stop. No exceptions. Some might have the title without that ability, but they don’t deserve it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

      A senior engineer is a multiplier. They make everyone around them better. Now it doesn’t have to be in person - they could write it up, or make a great test suite that explains it. But somehow, they have to communicate to other people what they know.

      I just spent 20 years operating in places where 9/10, I'm the only engineer. Where are these places where I'm not working 80 hours a week and powered by caffeine (or other substances)?
