Oh my! Just got my copy of ' retelling of Under Milk Wood. Loved studying it at school 30 years ago, listening to the vinyl recording of Dylan Thomas reading it. Such a memorable opening. This is a gorgeously exquisite book with the most delicious illustrations. 🤩

So glad you have visited Jon - last year they achieved 100% in Reading, despite serious disadvantage. One of the most effective schools in the country; an example in my view of what every child should be entitled to... it can be done. And - lovely, warm-hearted people! @son1bun

First short walk for a while on long recovery from pneumonia. Tired out but a robin sang to me and there were lots of pairs of gold finches darting about, ready to cheer me up.

40 pupils came to my office to borrow books today. I love the conversations we have about authors, illustrators, books and even publishers. Some parents came into my office with their kids after our Y6 SATs session after school. A fabulous finish to a really successful day 💙📚

What wise advice from Simon! I’ve seen this working with hundreds of heads over many years. 😃
Quote Tweet
I have been a head at the same school for almost 9 years.
The thing that stood out on talking to to a visiting head yesterday is that none of the real improvements were quick fixes.
True improvement takes time. Making it stick takes time , focus, commitment and staying power.
