Did people have Google maps on their phones in 2007? (Again, asking for a character.)

To repeat for a general audience — I just noticed that Joanna Russ’s WE WHO ARE ABOUT TO… — a novel that unflinchingly demolishes a metric ton of SF’s self-regard — is currently a $1.99 e-book on Amazon. A personal favorite. Also painfully funny, in a we’re-all-gonna-die way.

What would be a fairly normal kind of car for a single mom with a four year old to have in Kansas City in 2004? An ordinary unexceptional boring car, the kind you see and think "car".

Interesting that Cherryh's Alliance Rising *isn't* on the Locus list. This is how women disappear -- they get greeted as important and significant, but their works get reprinted less and they seldom achieve respect as elders, new works are ignored, they fade into the background.

Wow! : "In both 2009 and 2019, I reviewed about 50 books, ... in 2009, some 86% of those books were written or edited by white males, 12% by women, and about 2% by people of color. In 2019, the figures looked like this: 28% white males, 48% women, 27% people of color."
