I doubt there was less condemnation of it in 1948 than in 2013. Perhaps other factors have played a role in reducing it (most economic).

I’m in favor of keeping it illegal but a combination of inflated WWII numbers and the availability of casual sex go a long way to explaining the drop. The sexual revolution put a lot of prostitutes out of business, I would bet. Now women do the same for free,what an advancement!
