What school? I live outside Jackson and would love to see it !
-
barack obama elementary (formerly jefferson davis)
-
Small world - my former elementary school!
-
I bet that feels good! Sorry you had to attend it with the firmer name.
-
I meant former name!
-
Davis Elementary when I attended (along time ago) and if I’m not mistaken, Davis Magnet before the renaming.

Hell HAS frozen over. I spent the worst year of my military family childhood in Mississippi, during the time of the segregated south. It's racism was so oppressive, fear just lingered in the air. This photo made my DAY! Thank You!

It's still racist. Black Mississippi is just resilient and not with the shits.

I have it in a legal document that was drawn up, and filed in all of the states I have lived in as an adult, that if I were to die away from home, do not take my body through the state of Mississippi. My husband and kids are very aware of it. I have not gone back since 1964.
-
You do realize a hell of a lot can change in 54 years, right? I’m in PA and it’s very common to see Confederate flags around here. Like a lot. Not far from Bucks Co. (posh) line. Recently visited MS and didn’t see one. People get stuck in fixed ideas about people and places.
-
1. I'm a sociology. I don't just realize social change. I study it. 2. The gov. of MS was 3 when his family murdered Emmett Till. He recently accepted an award from a conference org.

I was directing my comment to the lady who was talking about your state based on her memories from 1964. My point is things *DO change. Ppl here point fingers at “hick racists” ;southerners) but fail to see it under their own noses. Lived in SC for 25+ yrs. Am aware of flag BS.
-
While we lived there, Medger Evers was murdered in his driveway. 3 civil rights workers were murdered and buried in a landfill. A little Black girl I played with was beat within an inch of her life for being "upity" the stories go on. I am sorry I can't forget. I wish I could.
-
Then maybe it will not have incentive to continue progress? I give credit for the new museum about civil rights they built. But sure, there’s a long way to go. PA is struggling to face truth of decades of church pedos. And their own inherent racism. 2/2

That's really awesome! Who ever painted it, kudos!
-
thank you!

Congratulations on a great piece, and an excellent decision from the school. No small undertaking- both mural, and name change. Lovin’ it from Australia. Nice one.,
