  2. RIP, Honorable Deborah Batts! FYI: Batts was & and 's 1st black faculty member. She is also the twin sister of pioneer historian Diane Batts Morrow, who wrote the 1st scholarly book on the Oblate Sisters of Providence.

  6. Upon finding the rt. headstone, I looked around & understood. I was in the cemetery's . Many of the enslaved & free who built KY's Holy Land & their descendants are buried in that area of the cemetery named after the great saint.

  7. This woman's sister, 4 great nieces, & great-granddaughter all became . Her son became one of the earliest priests & later a monk. I feared it would take me hrs to find the headstone until I noticed a large area of the cemetery with very few headstones.

    Happy 1st Day of ! If your narrative of the US experience or fight for racial justice in the Church in ANY way marginalizes or excludes , esp. members of the Black sisterhoods in the 20th century, you've gotten the story TERRIBLY wrong.

    Thank you for your passion! These stories need to be widely told. All of our Sisters in the US are heroes, but the Black Sisters especially so! We try to teach our kids these lessons!
