I'll add that if you want to support @blkwomenstudies but are unsure about joining, we're accepting donations at $blackwomensstudies. You don't *have* to support orgs that amplify racism and misogyny. BWSA intentionally destabilizes academic hierarchies & rejects discrimination.https://twitter.com/BlkGrlBrilliant/status/1284233885384093696 …

If there's a reckoning, cool. Go ahead and try reshape existing orgs to meet your needs. But let's also make sure we're not placing the burden on indigenous scholars or Black scholars to fix institutions that weren't built for us in the first place. Esp when we have alternatives.

People are already out here doing the work. As president and co-founder of the Black Women's Studies Association (
@blkwomenstudies), I can proudly say we're trying to do things in a way that nurtures & improves the scholar and the scholarship. I love@AAIHS & how they do this tooShow this thread -
I can't speak for indigenous history because that's not my field at all but I saw someone mention the Native American and Indigenous Studies Association (
@NAISA__) earlierShow this thread -
On one hand I get the impulse to try guide certain orgs toward inclusivity. On the other, I personally don't wanna show up to a party I'm not invited to in the first place. Not when there are already anti-racist orgs that know that scholars of all ranks are valuable to the field

Anyway, all this SHEAR stuff is really none of my business but it exposes cracks in the system that are relevant to academia all across the board. There's a different way of doing things. It doesn't have to be like this. Some of us are already on it. Guess I'll hop off my soapbox
