I guess it’s based on whether you prefer the narrative model of old anime or the database consumption of new anime, where shows are presented as exhibits of categorizable information. The newer shows are easier to marketize and capitalize on for the studios.

I mean if we’re being serious, anime can do either and I hope studios can make riskier more narrative stuff. But I’m also down to watch silly cute garbage sometimes.
