It shouldn't be an issue to start with because there shouldn't be tiered tickets.
On this, I completely disagree. It’s always better to have more options, and I’d gladly pay more to not have to wait in line, plus have more time in general on the convention floor.

BUT what about those of us who CAN'T? Why am I suddenly a second-class citizen at an event that is supposed to celebrate all of us as equals in gaming?

I think it’s mostly just that, if people do have the funds for it, it’s a way of supporting Blizzard even more. It’s an expensive convention to run. Your experience won’t change, but others will have a few more perks for having given a bit more generously. So it’s a good thing!
