What about adding an additional mark that lets current creators keep their verified badge? It could be called “established creator” and still function the same way as a checkmark, the symbol would be something different. Maybe something along the lines of this?pic.twitter.com/qxtv70fhaO

Additionally, adding a click-through button on the badges that leads to a google page explaining what each one does would cut through your current problem of confusion.
