Transactivists have been trying to outlaw therapy to help gender-dysphoric children accept their anatomic sex by appropriating the term "conversion therapy" to refer to it. It should have been labeled, eg, "sex-acceptance therapy."

"Self-acceptance therapy" sounds nicer, especially in relation to children, but I think it was finickiness about the word "sex" that got us into this conceptual and terminological muddle in the first place. Children have a sex: male or female.

Or “body acceptance therapy” plus identifying all mental health aspects child is grappling with. Unlike same sex children trans kids are dealing with mental health and/or on autism spectrum which makes for common false positive trans diagnosis on children.

I think it'll be interesting to see how the Government tries to separate that from gay conversion therapy when it (rightly) bans it.

Conversion therapy for adult gays and lesbians has NOT been separated from sex-acceptance therapy for gender-dysphoric children in any of the US state legislation passed in the last several years. This has been enabled by deliberate terminological vagueness.

It's cool to be deviant, or not to conform. What is not cool is pumping kids full of drugs and telling them they need surgery. 50 years ago, they did that to gay people.

And now they're doing it again under a different name and telling people that they will commit suicide if they don't. Nice package of crap that is.

The issue with this approach and applying it as standard is that you'll inevitably harm a lot of children by doing it. Yes, a lot of children in clinics aren't trans, I get that. But some of them are - & they shouldn't be harmed to get the non-trans kids out of the clinic quicker

the current accepted method in clinics is to not try and put boxes round the child and instead let them explore and decide what they want. this allows both cis children and trans children to have positive mental health outcomes - which is great in my opinion.
