Just as overly strict covid rules don’t much help prevent the spread of covid, reduced speed limits only help if people actually follow them. I’d rather see speed bumps, light up crosswalks, stop signs, and other traffic slowing measures.

Agreed. These are not the only measures being taken to slow speeds. With that said, it's also my understanding from experts in this area, based on many many studies done on this issue, that reduced speed limits actually do reduce speeds.
