Alright #gamedev - what's your best bug story?
Tell me about the one that was found late, or that almost shipped, or that nobody could figure out until you took 3 red bulls and were staring at it til 4 am the night before cert. Every game has bugs - let's hear the best ones!

1/ My first job in industry I was working on interactive movie, Planet of the apes spinoff. Rendered real time in Unreal and all but player was just making choices, so everything was a cutscene with UI on top. Game was really pushed visually and we struggled to make it work

2/ on consoles. PS4 version was shipping first and by some dark magic it kept 30fps almost everywhere. Xbox one have a bit less memory and there were other issues, and we had just few people left on a project. Time went by and it was obvious we not gonna make it work on xone

3/ Finally decision was made to render ALL GAME TO VIDEOS. Something that would make the whole process so much easier from beginning but now we had all that branching narrative scenes with some small variants in characters caused by player previous choices.

4/ So I had to redo whole branching system to include every single variation and we made a render farm out of few PCs and did it. Game on Xbox and pc lost all real time glory and was just 20gb of videos (which made really almost no visual difference).

5/ Because while doing so we fixed few minor issues it was making sense to update already released PS4 version to videos too, so anyone who already installed a game had to download a 20gb patch (which was the size of the game) that was literally making game technically worse.

6/ So not really a one bug but a bunch of them that were not possible to solve and costs us a lot of stress and work. Studio shut down a few months after.
