When I worked as a biologist we used to interview hunters and fishers to identify the species they encountered to establish the extent of populations. Virtually our entire dataset used to establish the historic range of Orcas is based on this type of anecdotal information

Genuine question: can you link to a study where the anecdotes were the deciding factor to confirm a hypothesis without any control for confounding factors? It seems as though this is what’s being referenced.
