    My words are failing me a bit today; I suppose I thought he would live forever. But I can at least say there was nobody I admired more in my profession, and in life, than Judge Damon Keith. I see him as a father figure and will forever strive to make him proud. (1/6)

    Judge Damon Keith—beloved mentor, father and friend—has died. For those of us who worked for him, loved him, were tutored by him, it is an indescribable loss. Rest In Peace, Judge: though the fight for justice is not finished, those you taught so well will take it from here.

    Still, I always saw the Hamtramck case as singular.The city racially targeted neighborhoods for displacement to build new high income housing. He ordered that the city build new homes for the Black families. They fought it for 45 years, but so did he.(5/6)

    As some may have heard, Judge Damon J.Keith, who was a federal judge on the 6th Circuit & prior to that a district court judge, has died. Judge Keith was a civil rights icon. I clerked for Judge Keith and I learned a lot from him. I'll share a couple of those lessons here. 1/11

    My heart is heavy. Sleep in Heaven my beloved Honorable Damon J. Keith. A national treasure, brilliant jurist, crusader for justice, and father figure and guidepost for his law clerk family. ❤️

    One of the great ones has passed on. Judge Damon Keith was one of that band of brilliant, courageous African American federal judges appointed in the late 1960s and 70s whose jurisprudence, eloquence and dignity set a standard of excellence.

    Judge Keith is like a father to his law clerks, and I’m so sad to have lost him but proud to be part of the Keith Clerk family. He lived by his principles, even when it was inconvenient, & is a role model for living purpose-driven life.
