Humans are very good at complicating the simple and simplifying the complex... the problem is that most humans don’t know when to do which.

I lean towards planning but the nitty-gritty economics side of leftism is my weakness, so I love getting to read these informative posts on the subject

Yeah, markets are definitely not capitalism. Capitalism is accumulation and the mode of production that supports it. One could imagine a socialist market with time dependent negative interest rates on time-stamped currency to prevent accumulation.

  7. Leftist economists have been debating markets and planning for many decades now, and from various angles. It’s a deeply complicated subject that even they don’t have fully figured out, so one should be skeptical if coming across anyone claiming to have all the “answers” on this.

  8. There is a difference between saying that markets in and of themselves are Capitalism, that markets in and of themselves inevitably lead to Capitalism, or that markets are a risk in that they could technically hold the door open for Capitalism, even with good mechanisms in place.

  9. Any Leftist telling you that a socialist economy should be “all markets” might be a feudal lord in disguise. Re: “planning,” there are a variety of ways we could structure things, as well as some realities we have to deal with (no matter how ideal certain arrangements would be).

  10. Telling that many put our mere distinction between Capitalism and “markets” into a dichotomous “market vs. planned” argument. We’ve basically always had planned economies; the questions have always been “how much?” and “how?” Leftist economists are still trying to figure it out!

I guess I’m just not that into mass incarceration or homelessness. I also don’t like genocide all that much 🤷🏾‍♀️

  13. Kuwasi Balagoon was a BPP and BLA member, New Afrikan Anarchist, and Panther 21 defendant. He was imprisoned for a robbery in 1981, and died in 1986. Balagoon spoke to and represented much of our current approach. Here are excerpts from prison letters of his that show how/why.

  16. “Bourgeois feminism” is technically an oxymoron, though we know what it’s referring to. But let’s be clear: In the West, “bourgeois feminism” just means masked white supremacy, Capitalism, and, therefore, patriarchy, since patriarchy is reinforced by these systems of domination.

  17. You can’t claim to want equality in opportunity for the sexes while promoting a system thats existence is purely dependent upon inequality in all ways. The idea that there can be equality in opportunity to exploit is a catch-22; inequality is inherent to capitalist exploitation.

Because if they admit that capitalism has created the largest planned economies in human history, then their favorite argument against lefty economic ideas goes out the window?

  21. Warren says that she’s a Capitalist to her bones. How anyone could call themselves a “feminist” and support such a person is beyond reason. Be mindful of the fact that she has the support of the “machine,” and that this machine has many ways of operationalizing identity.
