It would be nice if fossil fuels existed only as a backup plan, on the way to phasing them out completely as issues are resolved. Nice to inspire paranoia by claiming hypocrisy whenever others try and actually do something about carbon pollution.

Article is about coal phase out. Reliable backup can be performed by other means. As UK is showing. Even a few days without any coal at all. So obviously coal is not required a back-up.

The hypocrisy on these 'promises' comes from countries like Canada, where a 'brown out' in either winter or summer will cause deaths from extreme temperatures. -40C in winter and 33C in summer are intolerable and deadly.

And the true renewable cost with the fossil backup cost is never mentioned. I just finished costing backup from batteries w/ o fossil. It is USD 60Billion per annum per TWh of grid UPS if no renewable is available. Bonkers.
