Smr's and rtg's are an interesting tech. They could be self contained modules that can be made not to fail. If built correctly, and aren't stolen for scrap (size depending, etc). This kinda goes along with the idea of nuclear powered planes that can fly forever. Like project pluto and stuff, but that's a completely different topic. In that sense they have to be separated from the turbines they heat up. I know I'm spamming at this point..
