I also find that the tiny Climate benefits that the EU is pushing for will hurt their economy in the long run because of their push to wanting unreliable sources of energy. More blackouts will mean more food spoiled, less work done, etc.

I don't understand your point. High ETS + high CH4 prices make it such that green energy is economically attractive and will be adopted automatically. Governments don't have to sell anything because they don't have to do anything any more.

only true if solar & wind could carry all load — they are far, far from that, and that's why we'll still be using lots of fossil fuels, now mostly gas (to lower CO₂), but now at high, high cost

Does this increase the risk that more people will die from cold in the winter because they cannot afford to adequately heat their homes, or will the governments provide funding to offset the increased costs?

Perhaps if Oil companies were not paid HUGE subsidies and allow to legal 'bribes' or 'donations' to the politicians that are meant to manage our energy consumption.
