OK so 0.2bn hectares fewer are burning compared to 1900. In the same timeframe, we've lost over 1bn hectares of forest, or 2.4bn ha of wild forest + grassland - there is less wild space *available* to be burned. So, much higher % of wild space must be burning each year.

I did not know this, but this was immediately my question: Stats might be correct per se, but you need to take into account the corresponding facts.

Burning less perhaps of the water bombing planes and helicopters that weren’t in the equation in the early 1900’s? Yet with all of this firefighting equipment we still have literally towns burning b/c we can’t keep up. It doesn’t seem logical to compare these two centuries.
