Also consider what the impact might have been if the wind had been blowing the other direction in March 2011. Had that plume drifted over Tokyo, things would have been alot worse.

I think SMRs have alot of promise but doubt they will scale fast enough for the current needed rapid decarbonization. Traditional nuclear is dead in Western countries (ie where we have actual safety standards).

Anyone who has studied nuclear power to any degree recognizes it to be one of the most sustainable clean sources of energy in the history of man. There is always the issue of what to do with the spent fuel rods, but there has been a process in place for that for a very long time.
