What I think is happening here: the graph is very counterintuitive. People look at the taller bars on the right and assume the line should go up. But what matters is the "amount of grey", which is clearly greater at the left.

Criticizing the clarity of the graph would be fair, but assuming gross error or worse without explaining why seems pretty bad.
