I am going to take the time to read it, but I would like to ask here and now, did you consider what the homeowners' best economic alternative in the region was? High risk areas become viable alternatives to low risk, and high value, areas closer to cities, and jobs.

The issue is that it is claimed wildfires have become an apocalyptic nightmare because of AGW. Bjorn is making the point that himans are increasingly buoldong and living in previously undesirable locations. Flooding, wildfires etc

It *is* possible to build fire-resistant houses but from my casual research, people seem to ignore history and simply rebuild in the same style and materials as they did the first time. In these circumstances, any future fire loss is self-inflicted really.

Insurance companies should have a much higher (at least 4x) premium for home insurance in builds in high these zones. Same goes for flood plains.

No just power can stop them, so we'll can only stop subsidizing this activity with public firefighting services. Let them cover the full costs of protecting lives and property from wildfires. Also, the State should auction off land it can't maintain for safety of neighbors.

Yup! And in the UK we are building all over our flood plains and then wonder why more houses get flooded. Nothing to do with climate, but everything to do with stupidity.
