I believe the big picture here is that even though there might be an increase, it’s by no means a significant apokalyptic increase. It’s maximum a very modest increase and by no means unprecedented.

Only that the 1930-figures are not "natural" in the sense caused by nature, but to a large degree, at least in western North America, caused by Europeans moving in, creating wildfires by accident, while not yet having built a reliable and effective fire supressing system.

The indians also used fires, probably to a larger extent than the white settlers.
