Stop subsidising big oil and subsidise renewables.
Right now, electric car subsidies are something wealthy countries can afford to give elites to show virtue. They subsidize both, working on the principle that having subsidized fuel allows transport companies to provide cheaper service so prices for products like food stay low and stable. If you want food prices to double go ahead, but I wouldn't.

Surely though given the leaps in technology over the last 10 years, in another 10 years they will be totally competitive, at the very least on lifetime costs, without subsidy? Local air pollution in cities coming down is no bad thing either is it?

Hopefully companies like deep green will reduce energy waste in producing batteries. The million mile battery hopefully will not be theoretical for much longer. The emissions from production of steel and concrete from what I understand dwarf car emissions!

Not the price - the overall cost. The price of batteries for cars is decreasing - but we do not yet know what their cost will be (toxic waste disposal anyone?).

Right now, addressing the non existent problem of man made CO2 induced global warming/climate change by something that is equally non existent called ‘fixing the climate’ is something wealthy countries can afford to indulge in to allow elites to show virtue.
