i think it's more to do with turning driving back into a rich persons pursuit.
The UK government announced a ban on the sale of new gas and diesel cars from 2030 in an attempt to jump-start the market for electric cars. But these won't be a miracle cure for climate change. It's true that they won't make much of a difference in CO2 emissions. But they do make a big difference when it comes to other emissions that are directly harmful to health.

It sure will save health of westerners at the cost of health damage in countries where massive extraction of rare metals will take place. Something akin to oil and gas extraction in some countries, but then again black gold is not the same as lithium in energy density and value
