"If the ultimate goal is net-zero carbon dioxide, then eventually all energy consumption will have to be carbon-free..." Net-zero is not absolute zero. I think the world can still emit as much as is absorbed by nature.

Nature is an unreliable sink of carbon dioxide. Many natural make this a difficult variable to predict. Add to this his exclusion of non energy, anthro-originated carbon dioxide production ( i.e. agriculture), the reliance on natural ghg absorbsion, in offsetting energy, is nil.

That is not correct because 1. we don't need as much energy at night 2. renewable energy can come from several different sources and geographic locations 3. we can manage demand for energy 4. we can store renewable energy as heat, in batteries, pumped storage and in hydrogen.

This article incorrectly uses the total primary energy used in the world and includes all the energy wasted in the heat loss of fossil fuel engines. We certainly need to do more to achieve a 50% cut by 2030 but this is doable with existing tech.

At what cost? You had better start building nuclear reactors at breakneck pace, and expanding lithium production by an order of magnitude (or two...)
