Globally, there are just 5 million fully electric cars on the road. Even if this climbs massively to 130 million in 11 years, the @IEA finds CO₂ equivalent emissions would be reduced by a mere 0.4% globally.

Surely you should point out some thing that might make a difference.
I do — innovation. Shale gas in the US (an innovation for about $10bn R&D, though not designed to cut CO₂) actually made the US cut the most CO₂ of any nation since 2010 If we can innovate green energy to be cheaper than fossil fuels, we've solved the problem

Okay, agreed...but if we get the clean electricity, we will then use it to power electric cars among other things, right? So innovation on electric cars in lockstep with innovation on clean power, no...?
