At the end of the day these people are selling depopulation. They're trying to scare 1st worlders into keeping their lifestyle by screwing 3rd worlders. Its actually quite evil.
As matters stand, the world is in great danger of spending scarce resources on climate policies that hurt rather than help its poorest people.
