With about 2 billion more people added to the planet in the last 25 years, 1 billion lifted above the chosen poverty line is hardly a great achievement. The "how dare you" is aimed at the excuses that put economic growth ahead of action to cut fossil fuels.

So now the target is "extreme" poverty? But in any case it is a distraction. 1. You imply fossil fuels have a direct & only positive effect on poverty. 2. Definition of poverty is not trivial. 3. Poverty can be addressed in many ways. 4. Fossil fuel use must be drastically cut.
