Overpopulation is the prime problem as seen by the green activists. Extending human lives is contrary to their stated goals. Reducing humans ability to consume by increasing all costs & reducing disposable income is the goal.
No ROI for cutting emissions so the situations are not comparable. Meeting Paris pledges is a global commitment so all countries are in different glide-paths to same destination. Climate skeptics seldom examine consequences of inaction.
