I suspect we pay China to take it back in their empty ships, and they dump it in the ocean on the way home.

We currently burn fossil fuels for energy, and biomass for energy. We also make fossil fuels and biomass into plastic and paper, then landfill it. Why not make it in to plastic and paper, then burn it for energy?

Or agree on a worldwide environmental tax so that the true cost of anything becomes an influential factor.

How about we put a price on carbon and let markets find solutions. Waste to energy would surely grow as more urban centres move to district heating and cooling. Can’t get there without some kind of price on carbon - without, fossil fuels maintain their inherent subsidy.

Bjorn, check if burying plastic in landfill has a better net outcome than burning or recycling.

We need to raise the price/cost of garbage via Waste Tax. Add a Waste Tax, which will encourage consumers and businesses to re-think packaging and internalize the cost of cleaning up the waste from selling their products. Waste Tax revenue can be redistributed back to taxpayers

We used to do that in the U.S. Now they won't let any yard waste in landfills and nothing rots as a result. I think what we're doing is horrific. It needs the heat generated from yard waste to "process" plastic in landfills. Burning the plastics would be a good idea.
