"Batteries" can be a Hydrodam, a air pressured cave, or a flywheel, chems should only be used for load balance, not pure storage.

From what I've read, hydrodam are only practical in certain key areas. And .... it actually takes more power to pump the water up to storage than you get once you let it flow. Then also, the issue of other water uses like irrigation

Is the 5c/kWh what it actually costs to generate the power or is it what providers are willing to pay? When the wind is blowing and the sun is shining, prices tend to become negative in Germany more often than not. Not a sustainable approach to pay off the installations.

Cost for PV+Battery electricity in 2018 in Germany was 16 - 47 eurocent.
