Providing things that people desire would be better. Governments cannot possibly know what is best.
GDP remains the single best indicator to guide government policies. Ignoring it in favor of alternative measures of wellbeing is likely to lower people’s overall quality of life.

If there are obvious flaws in GDP then in principle it should be possible to construct a better measure. An objection to a specific alternative I would perhaps understand, but to object to alternatives generally seems Luddite.
