I’m gonna use as many plastic bags as I want. Period.
If we want to reduce the impact of plastic bags while still allowing for their efficient use, a tax seems like a much better idea. A 2002 levy in Ireland reduced use from 328 bags a person per year to just 21.

Good piece. However I noticed you dont mention that (at least according to Nat. Geographic) most of the plastic waste thrown into the ocean by those four countries (China, Vietnam, India and Philippines), is in fact waste that was sold to them by Western countries. Thoughts?

In the "old" days, everyone carried an empty bag or two to the shops. My mother who is 74 has always done it. The idea is not that complicated, but retraining the distracted current society might take some time.

Yes, but like all use taxes, they are extremely regressive. I'd be interested to see more details on the Ireland case study, namely how different classes were impacted.
