I guess part of the reason the "cost" argument doesn't reassure people is the commonly held belief that climate change is going to make the planet uninhabitable. Is that belief false?
You can only arrive at such conclusions by mathematically discounting the future, and by ignoring the more dire (if not most likely) predictions science-based predictions of climate and biodiversity deterioration.
Perhaps you are too old (or just not informed) to know about modern Real Options theory and what it has to say about betting everything on a discreet NPV analysis with a high discount rate?
Bjorn, what if the solar physicists are right and we are heading into a minimum that may equal or surpass the Maunder? Have you done any economic modelling under a scenario of a decrease in global average temp of 1 - 2 C and a NH decrease of 2 - 4 C? It would not be rosey.
