This is as dumb as telling someone suffering depression to just be happy

Yup, it's telling them they should put things in "proper perspective." In the large scheme of climate change politics their immediate needs don't matter.

People in the first world are wildly out of touch with the problems affecting poverty stricken countries. Reliable food and clean water are daily worries. No one cares about what might happen in 30 years when they can starve tomorrow.
-
I think that we are the cause of the changes in our climate. But I'm not fool enough to think that regressing to the past will help. If someone made me dictator, I'd have a ready solution: nuclear energy. But try that with these people! You'll see their real agenda if you do.

I did not tell the world’s poor to “grow up.” Those are important things I do not discount. Climate change affects the world’s poor disproportionately and education is the best way out of poverty.

You said, if they were just climate educated, they would put climate action on top. That is saying the poor don't know and/or understand what matters most to themselves

Folks in the Congo, dodging bullets and Ebola, probably are less inclined to worry about carbon footprints.
