In 1900 very few had electricity to their homes. 30 years later most developed states had national grids. In 1900 there was no network of roads, fuel, etc for motor cars. Yet by the 1930s most developed countries had metalled road networks, fuel stations, servicing etc.

We have alternative sources of energy. We just need to deploy them, rather than listen to wankers telling us it’s not possible. Your grandchildren will be able to read your nonsense, sunshine. I doubt they’ll think highly of you.

Completely true.., in 1998 when you first published your book, duh! Complete garbage now.. wind and solar are sooo cheap. Will you still be using this line in another 20 years?

This has happened in Australia with new grid generation from wind 5.5c/kWh, new solar 6.5c/kWh, vs new coal ~8c/kWh. 928MW of new solar/wind projects even gifted the renewable certificates away for free. So no subsidy.

I think looking at climate change in terms of expected global GDP is too narrow: it downplays risk and ignores distribution and other species. But it's hard to argue with the basic point that we need to pour investment into new technologies for energy generation or carbon capture
