We’re not seeing an increase of hurricanes. Yes, hurricane costs keep escalating. But this is not due to climate change. Rather, more people with more wealth live in harm’s way.

The analysis is on point, but as we learned in New Jersey after Sandy you have to factor in not only the desire of people to want to live by the Shore but their somewhat cavalier attitude about the potential for economic loss. Agree that FEMA subsidies should be cut.

One thing I would like to see is once people are forced to rebuild in these hurricane and flood areas that they are required to meet certain building standards so we are not forced to keep rebuilding time and time again. Examples would be hurricane straps for roof and stilts.

That's already being done, what needs to be done is to end all government subsidies for rebuilding and end the national flood insurance program. Let the homeowners who choose to live there assume all of the risks
