Oh, and all of these researchers will fly to Bruxelles with their laptops to tell the rest of us we need to cut back on flights and luxuries like laptops. Hypocrisy, much?
I met a guy once who so 'green' he stopped talking to me after I quoted from The Skeptical Environmentalist. He wanted everyone to massively curtail their carbon footprint & a war to reduce the world's population(!) He spent his winters skiing & summers rally driving. 
Is there a maximum sustainable human population? What is it and for what level of income/resource use? Will we have to address the question of growth at some point? How much extinction is acceptable until we get to that point? Why not work it out now?
The EU has already achieved this 'degrowth' in much of southern Europe. Well done!
Some even fly in their own plane or come in their own yacht and then tell the mere mortals to cut back, travel less and CO2 is evil. The hypocrisy is astounding indeed.
