But how many if the countries that switched after WWII kept their trains on the left? Israel drives right, but rails left.

Since most people are right-handed, it's intuitive to walk up and down stairs on the right, holding the rail with your right hand. So right is right. Only mad dogs and Englishmen drive on the left. (And sadly, those of us forced to follow their lead).
