The main concern is not the volume of plastic itself. The straw is small and more likely to end up in the ocean and cause damage.

While I understand the concern about plastics in the environment, where do most of the plastics that enter the oceans originate? It's my understanding that China and other developing nations are the main sources.

Is the issue the quantity of plastic or the tendency for small straws to end up on streets and waterways due to their size?

It’s because someone published a photo of a plastic straw being removed from a turtle’s nose. That’s the real reason.

As a manager of large landfills I can confirm a very small percentage of blowing plastic debris comes from straws. Plastic bags make up 99%. It looks like this straw ban will encourage travelers to purchase straws in grocery stores and keep a supply in their vehicles.

And then assholes like me will buy them out of spite and chuck them in the storm drain with my used motor oil and dead batteries.
