So, to counter attack NAVI (251 mm2), NVIDIA has to use TU104 (545mm2) instead of TU106 (445 mm2) in the RTX2070 Super, at almost the same prices. RTX 2070 Super @ $500 - RTX 2070 - $480. We have to consider that 7nm have almost the same yields of 16nm, right now.

Maybe 7 nm has almost the same yields(questionable) as 12 nm, but at the same time, the 7 nm wafers cost almost twice the price of 12 nm ones. So both GPU dies may cost effectively the same.

Not only for Ray Tracing. Turing is more similar to GCN than Pascal, so it needs more transistors.

Could be worse. They could be Intel trying to compete on either cost or performance in server / workstation & HEDT. Or even desktop enthusiast. At least they still own the absolute crown, & the custom 12nm SHP process is arguably better performance than 7nm non EUV for big dGPUs
